Interview Tips

Working with Adept Group, you will gain access to some of the most exclusive opportunities in the market. It is not unlikely that your first interaction with your future employer will be at the interview stage, so it is critical to make the best possible impression.

First Impressions

It takes just 3 seconds to make a first impression. This impression consists of the following factors: Appearance, Demeanor, Body Language, Mannerisms, and Dress.

Appearance:
Check a mirror before you meet with your interviewer – how is your hair and smile? A haircut before the interview goes a very long way.

Body Language:
When you first meet your interviewer, make sure to smile and greet them warmly; it shows confidence. If they are a Western person, give them a firm handshake and greeting. Adept Consultants are ready to help with ideas for improving your body language and creating the best possible first impression.

Mannerisms:
Along with the firm handshake and friendly smile, remember to maintain eye contact and keep your movements friendly and open. Generosity creates a very positive impression, so offering your interviewer the best seat or being helpful in general is a plus.

Dress:
Whenever possible, your interview should be in your best clothes – a suit and tie for men and a suit for women. If you expect to be in casual clothing that day due to your current office rules, keep it as close to smart casual as possible – khakis rather than jeans, etc. Also remember to tell your Adept Consultant that you are going to be in casual dress so they can tell the Interviewer and assist you in creating the best impression.

About Them

  • Remember the names and titles of the people you are meeting with; understand their roles within the company. Sometimes your first meeting will be with a HR Representative, a Country Manager, or a Vice President. Learn what they do and express interest in them. It is a good way to start the meeting flowing nicely.
  • Take time to research the company online; learn about their products; markets and competitors; this will give you a number of intelligent questions to ask your interviewer. Adept Consultants partner with our Clients and understand their business to an expert level; take advantage of this knowledge by speaking with your Consultant to gain important information about the company.
  • Understand and explore the vision and scope of the company and how you can help them achieve their goals. What are their strengths, are there any weaknesses, what can you bring to the company to help strengthen their position in the market?

About You

  • Understand your role and value clearly – what is it that you do now and within that, what have you achieved that sets you apart from others. Think of some specific examples of where you have made notable achievements and how this would make you the best person for the position.
  • Be prepared for common questions. You can expect the interviewer to ask why you want to change your job, what is interesting to you about the job you are interviewing for, what your salary level is, and whether you motivated and ready to learn new things. Think about these answers in advance so if and when they come up, you can answer smoothly and professionally.
  • Be ready to explain how your past experiences have prepared you for this next challenge, and try whenever possible to attach examples to things you say to back them up.
  • Remember – most importantly of all -- you are meeting a new, interesting human being. It should be an enjoyable experience, so make sure to smile and enjoy the meeting.

Closing the Meeting

At the end of the meeting it is important to thank everyone for their time. After you return home, send a short thank you email to everyone you received a business card from during the meeting. At this point, you can also focus or reiterate a point to show your interest in the position. This practice is considered standard in Western companies and is a must. If you would like help with wording or grammar, just ask your Consultant.
