The purpose for attending Interop 2009 in Las Vegas was to stay in touch with people, technology and trends within the Emerging Technology Industry.
We were also interested to see if the current economic downturn would have had an impact on this show- and indeed fewer companies were taking the opportunity to display their products than in previous years.
However we found this ‘trimming of the field’ actually quite beneficial as the companies, products and people attending the show were of an exceptional quality.
This allowed us to quickly meet with the decision makers at some of the most innovative companies in the market today; creating a situation where our time was used much more effectively.

Cloud Computing was a strong theme of Interop this year, with most of the major Technology players conducting seminars and workshops throughout the event.
Cloud computing is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Users need not have knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure in the "cloud" that supports them.
The concept generally incorporates combinations of the following:
• infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
• platform as a service (PaaS)
• software as a service (SaaS)
Cloud computing services often provide common business applications online that are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on the servers.

The term cloud is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on how the Internet is depicted in computer network diagrams and is an abstraction for the complex infrastructure it conceals (source Wikipedia).
Adept Group is closely following this Emerging Trend as it is receiving a great deal of attention globally at this time; the benefits of Cloud Computing vs traditional methods focus around core elements of Cost; Limited Downtime; Scalability and Support.
Mission Critical factors for both SMB and Enterprise users. This model sells very well regardless of economic climate as it promotes efficiency and reduces ownership of physical infrastructure, including both HW and SW with its license management responsibilities.
Within the Cloud it is most common to find solution providers focusing on Storage and rackspace; with Data Centers and Virtualization technologies being leveraged across a broad geographical spectrum. Storing data in this manner is not only cost efficient in terms of reducing Total Cost of Ownership (depreciation free) but also conveniently complies with many Security stipulations regarding the use of Data as the offsite locations are secured and clearly delineated from other sensitive data and employees.
It was great to see so many strong solutions moving through the industry at this time and we are excited for the future opportunities and services that this will bring to Japan and the rest of Asia.
If you would like to discuss any of the technologies, trends or companies that we met with during Interop please send an introductory email to info@adept-grp.com and we will arrange a consultation with an Adept Consultant to discuss how this knowledge can impact your career.
