CLIENT DESCRIPTION
The Client is a European based venture company specializing in providing Software development tools and solutions for large companies in the Japan market, that use this solution internally to efficiently develop their end solutions. Even though they had a global presence, the client had a majority of revenue streaming from Japan, and held a high priority to the successful growth of their Japan establishment.
An Adept Consultant met directly with the Japan President and CEO to discuss the client’s hiring needs and difficulties for Japan. The client had a small Japan office, and needed to find a candidate that is quite rare in this market; someone who has had experience coming from a software development background, but also someone who is able to work in a foreign company, and work with global teams, communicating effectively in English. The dilemma that they faced was that most software development candidates would be coming from a domestic company, and would have very little experience or ability to work with foreign team members. Moreover, candidates coming from a global company would be more experienced in installation and support of a product developed at Headquarters, and would subsequently give the candidate little or no experience of hands on software development. A third hurdle in the search was that the candidate would need to have experience in UML, which although popular overseas, is not as often used in Japan.
ADEPT SOLUTION
When Adept met with the Client to begin the search, the Client had already been searching for the ‘right’ candidate for over one year. Throughout this period, the client had previously worked with twenty Japanese recruiters, receiving over fifty applications, but only finding five of these candidates viable to interview with. Unfortunately, the interviewed candidates were not able to effectively communicate in English, and the client, was still unable to find the right person for their needs.
Adept took an active search approach to this hire, and searched the Japanese market to find and introduce five candidates that not only fit the requirements for the role, but could also pass an initial English communication test provided by Adept via face to face meetings. Three of these candidates were met, and the client shortlisted two candidates to chose from. Six weeks after Adept began the search, the Client was able to hire a strong bi-lingual software development candidate, who met the requirements.
CONCLUSION
With our active approach to fulfilling the client’s needs, we went out and searched the Japan market to find the rare type of candidate that they needed. Rather than use a large database of standard software engineers who were not right, we reached out into the Japan market, and was able to find someone who had the rare experiences that they required. These candidates were personally approached for this specific role, and pre-screened and interviewed by the Adept team to make sure that they would be a proper fit, and not waste any of the client’s time. Through dedicated service, understanding of the needs of small start up companies, and putting in the extra efforts to find and determine the right person for this hire, Adept was able to successfully differentiate ourselves from other firms, and successfully complete this search.
